OK, boys & girls - the jams are hot and the internet is helping. Yeah, as nerdy as it is, you're using it right now. Question our street cred if you want, but I believe that the internet could be an important information tool in the the coming years.
We are here to ride that wave into future. We watched the guy from Black Eyed Peas on the TV-hologram-thing from Obama's election night. This week I've watched two Woody Allen films and every episode of The Office: Season 4 on Netflix online. Now I'm on episode 8 of the first Season of 30 Rock, (How have I never watched this before?) so you should all know that the technology can be our friend. Even the His Hero is Gone dudes all have websites now.
Here's our new ways of keeping in contact via networking websites. We have a Facebook Group for The Sunday Shakes. We also have Myspace pages for The Sunday Shakes & Civil War Syndrome Records. Those are some new high tech ways to keep in on whats going on. That should hold us off til we get flying cars an time machines.

Well, it's been a while. The LP is out and we have been pushing it an anyone's face that will listen. Reviews are coming in. So far, so good. The Outlaw Lovers are bustin' humps on their end too.
In other news, Benjamin & I will be throwing a monthly jam at Springwater every third Sunday night. "The Sunday Shakes" starts with the first ever CIVIL WAR SYNDROME CHRISTMAS BASH. Every month we will be spinning punk, soul, garage, funk, and whatever else we feel along side our favorite local DJs. Cheap beer and hot tunes.

If you havent seen it, here's IGN's Top 10 Doom Metal Bands. It's got all the obvious picks. I can't give a thumbs up to the Type-o-Negative call. And I don't really think of Trouble as doom metal (just really awesome metal. Otherwise its a hot jam with some sweet videos for the handlebar-mustached-fuzz-box-lover in all of us.
Nashville's young crust wizards Karoshi have everything in the works for thier first seven inch EP. If you're into dark, melodic punk, this shoud be your cup of tea. Think of bands like Remains of the Day, From Ashes Rise, Rudmentary Peni & The Ex. They have some songs online, if you want to hear it.

Last night was a house show starring my new favorite local band, Kintaro and NYC's hip new ladies of rock n roll, Vivian Girls! Tonight, you can catch Kintaro rocking again at The End with The Dirtbombs and Nashville's own Turbo Fruits. Get there. All three bands are all killer, no filler.
Sunday should be a blast. Make your way down to The Springwater Supper Club & Lounge to hear Benjamin & I spin the hits. Guest DJ Tyrannosaurus Copter with be sharing the wheels of steel with us. If you buy me a Red Stripe, I might just let you hear the Outlaw Lover's new LP...
Next week The Young from Austin (who feature members of Sacred Shock and Army of Jesus) will be playing with Symptoms and Think Fast from AZ. Check out the map for directions.

Alabamalama

On a whim, Jamie Mechan & I took off and headed down I-65 on Friday afternoon. Destination: Bamalama. The Thomas Function boys had put together a little shin-dig. The two hour hike down inspired us to put the top down on his mom's convertible. This turned out to be a bad idea later, since the roof wouldn't go back up, but it proved to be the perfect way to kick off a weekend of summer rockin'. On the way down we got matching sunglasses - mine in white, his in black. We rolled up to The Flying Monkey a half hour or so before the gig. We caught up with some old friends and made a beer run for the BYOB event. The show kicked off with Plexi 3 a powerpop outfit from Wisconsin, a state firmly represented at the fest. The best part about the band, aside from their hooky songs, was that their drummer looked a little like Corky from Life Goes On. I left it alone, but it was a bit hard to not should out a request for "Ob-la-di Ob- la-da." They were good, but The Strange Boys blew me away. If you dig Them or The Seeds, the young Austin rockers would be your jam. Check out their Nothing ep. The Thomas Function guys were incredible. Best band of the whole weekend. Listen to their new LP on Alive. This might be the best record of 2008 so far. The final band was Live Fast Die, who I had seen just 2 nights before (see previous blog.) Both nights, they were awesome. Terrific punk. Melodic without being stupid. Buy their Buzz Buzz Buzzard 7".
After the show, it was party time. We kicked it outside with some dudes we knew. My buddy Justin showed up lookin' good. Slimmed down bearded out. The unexpected sight of West Tennessee's Mr. Joe Simpson was a pleasant surprise. We saw former Nashvillian Peyton "Thrash" who was there playing with his band Wax Museums. Two thirds of Cheap Time were there. As usual, Jon Sewell was the center of the party. Josh from Thomas Functions let us crash out at his crib. After getting lost on Memorial Parkway for 45 minutes, Jamie and I arrived. We didn't what we were getting into. The members of Jail & The Barbaras were also sleeping. Little sleeping was done. A lot of partying and listening to records by The Feelies, Camper Van Bethoven, Tommy James, and select 7 "s by Alabama bands. Tons of fun. Little Sleeps. As it should be at any good weekend fest.
Saturday afternoon was great too. The class of the show was definitely Rise Up Howling Werewolf. Its a brand new band from members of The Pine Hill Haints. The band sounds like a cross between Hot Snakes and 70s fuzzed out rock. Great band. Jon, Jamie & I headed back to nashville after the mid-day show. A terrific time for all. Tanks to everyone who showed us hospitality & rocked out.

Alpha
THE OUTLAW LOVERS have finished recording, mixing & mastering their second full length. We will be releasing it this summer, as soon as the legal matters & artwork are all sealed up. Brothers & sister, this 12 inch slab of rocknroll will slay you. Elements of Dylan, The Stones, Webb Wilder, The Clash and The Heartbreakers (both Petty's & Thunders's). This LP's first run will be a pressing of 500. Included with the LP is a free download for the full album, so you tech-savvy people out there can have it on your ipods. For those of you without a turntable, it will be available on a multitude of internet places. No preorders will be taken for the LP, but we will have a bunch of ways to get a hold of one when (not if) you want to lay down a stack of dead presidents for it. Click on the band's name to hear a few tracks via myspace. Get into it.
Nashvillians should make it out to The Springwater tonight. Our acid rocker pals in MAJIK PLANTS are playing a show with local shoegazers HOLLOW OX.
Nashville's latest next-big-thing, CHEAP TIME will be hitting the road in three weeks. Catch them in a town near you & pick up their new LP on In The Red. Rumor has it that if they sell enough copies of their first full length, they get to do a gatefold for the second one. And who doesn't love gatefolds? Here's where you can catch them...
And if you love Iggy, which we all do, you should get down with this tour rider for The Stooges.
